Flooring Trends
Flooring trend, like all trends, change every year. If you’re looking to update the flooring in your home, or even in just one room, you’ll find ample options at A&R Carpet Barn. Discover this year’s freshest flooring trends for your consideration.
Luxury Vinyl
Luxury vinyl is actually a new category of flooring that combines the high-end look of hardwood with the durability of traditional vinyl. This type of flooring is great for kitchen and bathroom spaces, as it stands up to moisture. Essentially, wood grain, marble, stone or other natural patterns are printed on the vinyl and when installed, looks like its more expensive counterpart.
Cut & Loop Carpet
According to the DIY Network, “Carpet remains the market-share leader, accounting for more than 60 percent of retail flooring sales.” The cut-and-loop style is a modernized take on the flooring classic. The pile is cut and sculpted into different patterns to create a clean and finished look. This multi-tonal flooring option gives any space personality.

Revolutionary New Fibre
DuPont, the same company responsible for the invention of nylon, has developed a revolutionary new type of fibre made from the company’s latest polymer innovation (a PTT polymer) called Triexta, this fibre is being used throughout the apparel, upholstery, and carpet industries with great success. The main reason is that Triexta provides a unique combination of superior performance, softness, and stain resistance compared to other synthetic fibres. It also is made in part from renewably sourced ingredients, so there’s less impact on the environment, while still providing exceptional durability and built-in permanent stain and fade protection.
Large Format Tile
In most cases, homeowners will use the standard 12” X 12” format when choosing tile as their flooring option. One current trend is to go big! Tile sizes are growing and decorators are beginning to use these large-format tiles more often. These tiles come in a variety of dimensions from
10” X 16” to 36” X 36”. Benefits of larger tiles include:
- More surface space, so fewer grout lines
- Your space/room will seem larger
- A sleek, modern look

Gray
No matter the style of flooring, grey always looks great. This “progressive neutral” shade complements nearly every secondary color you put up against it. From carpeting to traditional hardwood, grey is a solid choice for any type of flooring. Pair a grey floor with grey cabinets or furniture and create a sleek, modern look that suits any style.

Blonde
Typically with wood flooring, lighter shades are gaining in popularity. Although darker stains are always a go-to choice for wood flooring, non-traditional wood choices makes lighter shades a very attractive option. Lighter colors open up your space, allow for more light reflection and will show less dust.
